Vain lived for the early years of his life in the area that is now known as Finland, or Suomi, the native name for the country.
Sadly some of Vain's human relatives died in the Finnish famine of 1866-1868, but he had long since left the region with his father and brother Caderyn. The demoness chose a small island on the lake of Oulujärvi for the human to raise his half demon sons on. The tiny village suffered many hardships and they journied from there to Scotland where their human father died of the plague.
The idea of the demoness was to breed a warrior to blend in with man, for easy domination, selecting the finest and bravest warriors to do this over centuries. The Norsemen would known to be able to survive under harsh conditions as well as be strong and violent fighters.
Vain speaks 3 languages fluently, English, Demon and Finnish. He can read/write in only two of those. (English and Finnish)

Born in 1322, he was the offspring of a human father and demon mother. He was left to be raised with his brother Caderyn by the human parent to become used to the ways of mortals and serve under their mother as they came of age.
He buried his father in 1338, who became one of the early victims of the plague. Caderyn and Vain parted ways for the first time, but always seem to reconnect at some point.
Due to Vain's mixed lineage, his magic is limited. He can with effort create portals, work with fire and earth/ground based magics. His control of the element of fire has saved his life on several occasions, the most notable was a murder attempt by Victor Maudrin.
